How Many Followers Do You Need To Get Brand Deals?

Far fewer than most creators assume. The old 10,000 follower rule is dead. Brands worked out that 2,000 obsessed followers sell more product than 200,000 bored ones.

A laptop on a desk showing a creator dashboard. An audience panel reads 25,430 followers, up 12.4%, over a rising chart, with profile views 184.2K, content reach 320.1K and engagement rate 4.8% beneath it. A Brand Deals column on the right lists five collaboration enquiries received over the last three days.

How Many Followers Do You Need To Get Brand Deals?

Short answer? Way fewer than you think. I know that sounds like a motivational poster. Stick with me. The numbers back it up.

The old rule was 10,000 followers. That number is dead. It died when brands worked something out. A creator with 2,000 obsessed followers sells more product than one with 200,000 bored ones.

The real tiers, roughly

Nano creators sit between 1,000 and 10,000 followers, and yes, they get paid. Usually free product first, then small fees. Micro runs 10,000 to 50,000, and this is where steady paid work starts showing up. Above that, rates climb, but so does the competition and so do brand expectations.

But here’s the thing nobody mentions. Brands aren’t buying your follower count. They’re buying access to a specific kind of person. If your 900 followers are all dentists, dental brands will pay. They pay more than for a lifestyle account with 50,000 randoms.

What actually moves the needle

Engagement rate matters more than size. Anything above 3 percent is solid. Above 6 percent and you’re in a genuinely good spot. Comments beat likes. Saves and shares beat both.

Clarity matters too. When a brand looks at your grid, can they tell what you’re about in four seconds? If your feed goes travel, gym, cat, rant, they can’t place you. So they don’t.

Stop waiting to be found

Most first deals don’t come from a brand discovering you. They come from you sending an email. Tag brands you actually use. Make content about their products before anyone asks you to. Then pitch with a screenshot of how that post performed.

Look, the gatekeeper you’re waiting for probably isn’t coming. Send three pitches this week to brands you genuinely love. Worst case, silence. Best case, your first yes at 800 followers.
