How Often Should You Post On Instagram?

There is no sacred number, and anyone quoting one is guessing with confidence. Three to five posts a week is the workable baseline.

A phone on a desk beside a glowing Instagram icon, showing a content planner. A week of October 2026 runs across the top with Tuesday 13 selected, and under it a day's schedule: 9:00 AM reel, why consistency matters; 1:00 PM carousel, growth tips; 7:00 PM story, behind the scenes; then tomorrow, a 9:00 AM reel and a 5:00 PM post.

How Often Should You Post On Instagram?

Let me save you some anxiety. There is no sacred number. Anyone who tells you “post 4.5 times a week or the algorithm punishes you” is guessing with confidence.

But that’s a frustrating non-answer, so let’s get practical.

The honest baseline

Three to five posts a week is the sweet spot for most people. Enough that you stay in front of your audience. Not so much that you burn out by week three and vanish for a month.

Stories are different. Daily if you can. Stories are where people learn to like you, not just learn from you.

Consistency beats frequency, every time

Here’s the trap. Someone reads that posting daily works, so they go all in. Seven days a week. Two weeks later they’re exhausted, the quality drops, and then they disappear entirely.

Three posts a week for a year will beat daily posting for a month. Every single time. Your audience isn’t tracking your output. They’re just noticing whether you show up.

Match the format to your energy

Reels take real effort. Carousels take thinking time. Single images take almost nothing. Mix them, so your week isn’t four heavy lifts in a row.

I’d rather you post two great Reels and one quick photo than five mediocre things you didn’t care about. People can feel when a post was made just to fill a slot.

Batch, or you’ll break

Pick one afternoon. Film four Reels back to back, different outfits, different angles. Write your captions in one sitting. Then spend the rest of the week replying to comments. That does more for growth than a fifth post ever would.

The real question

Instead of “how often should I post,” ask what you can sustain for six months without hating it. Whatever that number is, that’s your number.

Start there. You can always add more once it stops feeling like homework.
