What Do Brands Look For In Creators?
A safe bet that makes them look good. The first question in any brand meeting is whether your audience overlaps with their customer. Follower count comes later.

What Do Brands Look For In Creators?
I used to think brands were looking for the biggest audience they could afford. Turns out that’s mostly wrong, and once you understand what they’re really scanning for, pitching gets much less terrifying.
Brands are looking for a safe bet that makes them look good. That’s the whole thing.
Audience fit beats audience size
The first question in any brand meeting is whether your audience overlaps with their customer. Not how many followers you have. Say you make content about first-time home buyers. A furniture brand wants your 3,000 followers more than a lifestyle creator’s 80,000.
So know your audience. Actual demographics, from your insights. Age range, top cities, gender split. Put it in your pitch. Most creators don’t, and it makes you look instantly more professional.
Proof that people act, not just watch
Brands want evidence someone did something because of you. Screenshots of DMs saying “I bought this because of your video.” Link click numbers. A story poll where 400 people voted. That stuff is gold and it costs you nothing to save.
Start a folder on your phone right now. Screenshot every comment where someone says they bought, tried, or booked something you mentioned.
Being easy to work with
This is underrated and it’s why some mid-size creators get repeat deals forever. Reply within a day. Hit deadlines. Send the draft before posting. Don’t disappear mid-campaign.
Marketing managers are busy and slightly stressed. The creator who makes their week easier gets called again. Talent is roughly half the equation. Reliability is the other half.
Brand safety
They will scroll your last hundred posts. They’re checking whether you’ve said anything that could blow up on them. That’s just reality.
Where to start
Build a one-page media kit this week. Who you are, audience stats, three past results, your rates. Even if you’ve never been paid before. Having it makes you feel legitimate, and that changes how you pitch.
